The short answer

Meadow vs Dutchie is decided by your state before it is decided by price. Meadow only sells in a handful of markets, and its own site lists California, Michigan, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey on every page, plus Washington, D.C. on its pricing page and Minnesota on a September 2026 blog post. Dutchie says it serves more than 6,500 dispensaries and brands across 40 or more markets. If your store is outside Meadow's list, the comparison is over and the useful question is which Dutchie alternative to price instead.

Inside Meadow's states, the choice comes down to how each one bills. Meadow charges one flat monthly fee per location with unlimited seats and lets you pick your own payment processor. Dutchie bundles point of sale, ecommerce and payments, is reported at roughly $499 to $1,000 a month per location, and a rival's comparison says some Dutchie pricing comes with a requirement to use Dutchie's payment processing. Neither publishes a price, so both written quotes are the only real numbers in this comparison.

Is Meadow cheaper than Dutchie?

Probably, for a store with a large team, and not necessarily for a small one, but nobody can prove it from public numbers. Meadow's pricing page names two plans, Essentials and Growth, and promises one flat monthly fee per location, unlimited seats, unlimited stations and no usage caps. It publishes no dollar figure. Dutchie's pricing link opens a demo form, and the only Dutchie figures in circulation come from software directories and competitor roundups.

The one Meadow figure you will find online, $150 to $400 per user per month from a software directory, cannot be right for a vendor that sells unlimited seats per location, so do not budget from it. We set out why on our Meadow POS pricing breakdown. The Dutchie side is covered line by line in our Dutchie pricing breakdown.

Read the third column before the other two. Every claim about Meadow's strengths in the top search results comes from Meadow, because the page ranking for this comparison besides two review-site grids is Meadow's own Dutchie alternatives post, dated September 1, 2026. That does not make it wrong. It means the facts worth acting on are the terms each company puts in its own contract.

Which is better, Meadow or Dutchie, for a single dispensary?

For a single store in one of Meadow's states that wants to keep its own payment processor and a predictable bill, Meadow is the better fit. For a store that wants one vendor for the register, the online menu and payments, or that plans to open in another state, Dutchie is the safer choice. The deciding factors are your state, your payment setup and whether you value one bundle over a flat fee.

  • Outside CA, MI, MA, NY, NJ, D.C. and Minnesota: Dutchie, or a different alternative, because Meadow is not an option.
  • You already process cards or ACH through a provider you like: Meadow, which says you choose your processor.
  • Your online menu already runs on Dutchie: Dutchie, unless the POS quote is far above the reported range.
  • Large floor staff, many logins: Meadow's unlimited seats make headcount irrelevant to the bill.
  • Delivery as well as storefront: Meadow sells hub and spoke delivery inside its plans and argues Dutchie lacks deep native delivery; ask Dutchie to demo its delivery flow before you accept that either way.
  • Planning a second state: Dutchie, for coverage alone.

Does Dutchie make you use its payment processing?

Sometimes, according to competitors and agencies, and it is the most important line to get in writing. Meadow's September 2026 comparison says Dutchie's pricing can carry "a requirement to use Dutchie's proprietary payment processing," and describes Dutchie offering free hardware and software to many customers in exchange. Dutchie does not publish its terms, so treat this as a rival's characterization and ask the question directly.

The reason it matters is arithmetic. A software discount of a few hundred dollars a month is easily outweighed by a fraction of a percentage point on every cashless sale, and a payment rail tied to the register makes the register harder to leave. Ask Dutchie for the software price with and without its payments on separate lines, and ask Meadow which processors it supports in your state. Our cannabis payment processing guide covers what each rail typically costs.

How much does Meadow cost compared with Dutchie for two to five stores?

At several locations both bill per store, so the multiplier is the same and the difference is the per-store rate plus what each charges for ecommerce and delivery. At Dutchie's reported $499 to $1,000 a month per location, three stores is roughly $1,500 to $3,000 a month in software before payments. Meadow's quote has to beat that figure, and because it includes Leafly, Weedmaps and Onfleet integrations and unlimited seats, compare the totals with those add-ons priced in on the Dutchie side.

For a chain, the hidden cost is not the subscription. It is moving every store's history and state tracking at once, and being locked to one vendor's payments across all of them. Our guide to the best POS for a multi-location dispensary works through per-store pricing across the major platforms.

What about Meadow vs Cova, or Dutchie vs Cova?

If you want a published price to measure both against, Cova is the benchmark. It lists $349 a month with Cova Pay for up to two workstations and $499 for up to four, with built-in ecommerce as a separate line. Getting a Cova number before the Meadow and Dutchie calls gives you a floor neither of them can pretend does not exist. The wider field, including the quote-only vendors, is lined up in our Dutchie alternatives comparison.

One more option that still shows up in older Meadow vs LeafLogix searches is LeafLogix itself, which is no longer sold. Dutchie bought it in 2021 and folded it into Dutchie POS, so a LeafLogix quote today is a Dutchie quote, as our LeafLogix pricing page explains.

How hard is it to switch from Dutchie to Meadow?

Plan on four to eight weeks from signature to first sale, most of it on data and the state tracking connection rather than on the software. Meadow runs a Metrc integration with daily uploads, so confirm your state's system before anything else, then export customers, loyalty balances, product catalog and package-level inventory from Dutchie while you still have full access. If your online menu is on Dutchie's ecommerce, you are replacing two systems at once, so schedule the menu change separately from the register change.

Dutchie's own legacy ecommerce product, Dutchie Plus, is being retired, with agency guidance putting support through the end of 2026, so stores on it are rebuilding their online menu either way. That is a sensible moment to question the register as well. The order of steps is in our guide to switching dispensary POS systems.

What should be in the contract whichever you choose?

The per-location price, the payment terms and the exit. Write down the monthly price with and without the vendor's payment product, what is included versus extra (ecommerce, delivery, loyalty, kiosk), the setup fee, the term, the renewal increase, the notice period and the format your data comes back in if you leave. Then put the renewal date and notice window somewhere it will actually be seen; contract management software that reminds you before an auto-renewal costs far less than a second year at a rate you meant to renegotiate.

A register only records the sale. The buyer still has to find your store first, and adults comparing shops nearby look at menus, prices and hours before they leave home. Meadow sends its menu to Leafly and Weedmaps at no extra cost, and whichever POS you pick, a claimed Dispensaries listing shows your live menu, deals and hours next to other licensed shops for a published $99 a month, cancel anytime.

Before you sign

  • Check Meadow serves your state. Its own pages disagree on whether that list includes D.C. or Minnesota.
  • Get Dutchie's software price with and without Dutchie payments, on separate lines.
  • Get Meadow's flat per-location fee in writing, and ignore any per-user figure you have seen.
  • Price ecommerce, delivery and loyalty on both, at full price.
  • Get one published-price quote, such as Cova, before either call.
  • Write down the renewal date and notice period the day you sign.
