PRICE THE RENEWAL, NOT THE OLD REASON
BioTrack pricing and BioTrack POS cost for a dispensary in 2026
The short answer
BioTrack does not publish a price for its dispensary POS. Directories report a starting figure of $50 a month (SelectHub) or $200 a month (SoftwareConnect), and Capterra lists a $349 one-time rate that may not describe the cannabis product at all. The bigger change is not the price. On August 5, 2025 BioTrack moved its government contracts into a separate company, BT Government, Inc., under a partnership with Metrc, and Illinois, New York and New Mexico have since replaced BioTrack as their state tracking system. Many stores chose BioTrack POS because it matched the state system. If that is why you are on it, your renewal is now an ordinary POS purchase, so price it against the vendors that publish a rate card: Cova at $349 to $599 a month and IndicaOnline at $240 to $850.

BioTrack has been in cannabis software since before most state programs existed. For a decade it sold two things at once: the seed-to-sale tracking system some states used to regulate the market, and a point of sale that dispensaries in those states bought because it reported to that system without a middleman. That pairing was the sales pitch, and in states like New Mexico, Illinois and New York it was a strong one.
The pairing has come apart. The government business now sits in a separate company, three of the largest BioTrack state programs have moved to other systems, and BioTrack itself has been owned since February 2023 by Alleaves, which sells a competing point of sale. This page sets out what BioTrack POS is reported to cost, what changed in ownership and in the states, and how to price a BioTrack quote or renewal against the vendors that publish. We are a directory for state-licensed dispensaries. We do not sell or resell POS software and take no referral fee from any vendor named here.
Why it works
How to read a BioTrack quote in 2026
Check why you chose it
If you bought BioTrack POS because your state tracked on BioTrack, look up what your state runs today. In Illinois and New York it is Metrc, and in New Mexico it is the state built NMS2S. The integration advantage you paid for may be gone.
Ask for a written number
BioTrack publishes no price, and the directory figures run from $50 to $200 a month with no meter attached. Get the price per location and per register, plus setup and support, on paper before you compare anything.
Name the meter
Per location, per register, per user or per module. BioTrack sells retail, cultivation, processing and payments software, and each can be a separate line. Ask which ones are on your invoice today and which you actually use.
Ask who you are contracting with
BioTrack is owned by Alleaves, which sells its own POS, and the government side is now BT Government, Inc. Ask which entity is on your contract, who supports it, and whether a migration to Alleaves is planned.
Bring a published anchor
Cova publishes $349 to $599 a month and IndicaOnline $240 to $850. Holding one of those numbers at the renewal call turns the quote from a take it or leave it into a comparison.
Time it to your term
The best leverage on any POS contract is the 60 to 90 days before auto-renewal. Find the notice clause now, because a missed window can lock in another full year at the old rate.
How it works
Four steps, in the order that actually pays
Find your renewal date
Pull the BioTrack contract and note the term end, the notice period and any auto-renew clause. That date decides how much time you have to compare.
Confirm your state system
Check which tracking system your regulator runs today. If it changed from BioTrack, ask how your POS now reports and who fixes it when the sync fails.
Price two published cards
Run your registers, locations and staff count through Cova's and IndicaOnline's public rate cards. That gives you a checkable monthly figure before the BioTrack call.
Compare first-year totals
Twelve months of software, plus migration, hardware you must replace and training. Switching costs are real, so compare the full first year, not the monthly line.
The meter test
What BioTrack is reported to cost against the published cards
Monthly software cost for one store. The colored bars are the BioTrack starting figures two software directories publish. The gray bars are the prices other cannabis POS vendors publish on their own sites. Neither directory says what the BioTrack figure buys, so treat both as the floor of a quote, not the quote.
The numbers
Every BioTrack price claim we found, and who published it, October 2026
| Source | Who they are | What they say BioTrack costs | How much weight to give it |
|---|---|---|---|
| BioTrack | The vendor | No price. The dispensary POS page offers a demo request only. | The only source that could settle it, and it does not. |
| Alleaves | BioTrack's owner since February 2023, sells its own POS | No price for BioTrack or for its own POS. | None on price. Useful to ask whether BioTrack POS customers are being moved to Alleaves. |
| SelectHub | Software directory, paid by vendor leads | Starting at $50 a month. | Low. No tier or meter named, and far below every other cannabis POS figure we have. |
| SoftwareConnect | Software directory, paid by vendor leads | Starting at $200 a month, best suited to mid to large businesses. | Low to medium. Plausible as a single module floor, not as a full store price. |
| Capterra | Software directory, paid by vendor leads | $349 flat rate, one time. | Very low. The listing does not clearly describe the cannabis seed-to-sale product, and no cannabis POS is sold one time. |
| Cova (for comparison) | Competing vendor, own pricing page | $349 to $599 a month per location. | High. A published, checkable anchor. |
| IndicaOnline (for comparison) | Competing vendor, own pricing page | $240 to $850 a month by tier and billing cycle. | High. A published, checkable anchor. |
BioTrack figures come from the directory listings named, checked in October 2026. None of them says what is included. Ownership facts come from the February 13, 2023 sale announcement and Metrc's August 5, 2025 release. Treat every BioTrack figure here as a starting point for a written quote, not a price.

How much does BioTrack cost?
BioTrack does not say. Its dispensary point of sale page describes the product and asks you to request a demo, and we found no rate card on the BioTrack or Alleaves sites. The figures in circulation all come from software directories: SelectHub lists a starting price of $50 a month, SoftwareConnect lists $200 a month and calls BioTrack best suited to mid to large businesses, and Capterra shows a $349 one-time rate on a listing that does not clearly describe the cannabis product.
None of those figures names a meter, so none of them is a price you can budget. The useful move is to price the category. The two cannabis POS vendors that publish, Cova and IndicaOnline, put software between $240 and $850 a month per location depending on tier and billing cycle. A realistic single-store first year on those cards runs roughly $3,600 to $10,200 in software, plus $1,000 to $3,500 of hardware per register if you replace it. If a BioTrack quote sits well above that band, ask the rep to explain what the difference buys.
- No public price and no pricing page.
- Directories report $50 or $200 a month as a starting figure, with no meter named.
- Published anchors: Cova $349 to $599 a month, IndicaOnline $240 to $850.
- Ask for software, payments and support as separate lines.
Who owns BioTrack now?
Alleaves, Inc. Forian, the company that owned BioTrack after its 2021 merger with Helix Technologies, announced on February 13, 2023 that it had sold BioTrack to Alleaves effective February 10, 2023, for $30 million in cash, $20 million at closing and $10 million in twelve monthly installments. Forian said it would no longer provide software to the cannabis industry.
Alleaves sells its own cannabis point of sale, Alleaves SELL, alongside payments and delivery products, and its own site describes BioTrack as its parent company. For a BioTrack POS customer that raises a fair question for the renewal call: is BioTrack POS still being developed as its own product, or are customers expected to move to Alleaves over time? Ask it directly, and ask for the answer in the contract, because a forced migration two years into a three-year term is the most expensive outcome on this page.
What is BT Government, and what changed with Metrc?
On August 5, 2025 Metrc announced a strategic partnership with BioTrack. Under it, BT Government, Inc. was established as a new entity to manage BioTrack's government-facing operations, and BioTrack said it would expand its focus on commercial cannabis solutions, including ERP and POS platforms. Metrc said its existing track-and-trace states would see no disruption. Trade reporting at the time put Metrc at 29 state contracts and BioTrack at eight.
In plain terms, the company that sells you a register is no longer the company that runs any state's tracking system. That is good for neutrality and bad for the old sales argument. The reason many dispensaries picked BioTrack POS was that the register and the state system came from the same vendor, so reporting worked without a third-party connector. After the split, BioTrack POS reports to a state system the same way every other POS does, through an integration it has to maintain.
Which states stopped using BioTrack?
Three of the largest BioTrack state programs we could verify have moved. Illinois switched its seed-to-sale system to Metrc as of July 1, 2025, after a phased onboarding by license type. New York's Office of Cannabis Management announced in September 2025 that it would move to Metrc instead of finishing its BioTrack rollout, and the licensed market moved over at the end of 2025. New Mexico replaced BioTrack with its own New Mexico Seed-to-Sale System, NMS2S, built by Real Time Solutions.
The New Mexico switch shows what this costs a store. The Cannabis Control Division's Industry Bulletin 26-08, dated August 10, 2026, set migration to begin at the end of the day on August 25, 2026, with launch in the first week of September, and warned that existing BioTrack user accounts would not be migrated. Only data in BioTrack would carry over, so stores on third-party POS systems had to make sure their records were synchronized first. The Cannabis Association of New Mexico sued on August 21 to keep BioTrack running until the state contract expired on September 15, and retailers told local reporters after launch that inventory had failed to transfer and that the switch was costing them sales. If your state runs any tracking system, ask every POS vendor how it handled the last migration in a state like yours.
Is BioTrack a good POS for a dispensary?
It covers what a dispensary register has to do. BioTrack's own product page lists split weights at the counter, scale integration for weigh-heavy sales, backwards math, delivery and pickup workflows with delivery manifests, purchase limits tracked by product type and equivalency, customer profiles with purchase history and loyalty points, discounts by date, time, product or brand, SOC 1 and SOC 2 compliance, and integration with Metrc, Leaf Data Systems and BioTrack's own tracking system.
What it does not have any more is a reason to be chosen over the field by default. Directory reviews are thin, and the ones we read mention a steeper learning curve and a price that can feel high for a smaller store. If you are on BioTrack and it works, there is no reason to switch for its own sake. If you are on it only because your state used BioTrack, compare it with the vendors in our cannabis POS comparison before you renew.
How do I switch from BioTrack POS to another system?
Plan for four to eight weeks, and start before your notice window closes. Export your customer list with loyalty balances, your product catalog and your open inventory, then reconcile physical inventory against the state system before the new POS takes over, because a mismatch carried into a new system becomes a compliance problem with your name on it. Run both systems in parallel for at least one full trading day before you cut over.
The steps that cause the most trouble are loyalty points and purchase history, which some vendors cannot import cleanly, and payment processing, which may be tied to the old contract. We go through the full sequence in how to switch dispensary POS systems in 4 to 8 weeks, and the state tracking side in our guide to cannabis inventory software and seed-to-sale tracking.
BioTrack alternatives with a published price
If you want a number before a sales call, two vendors will give you one. Cova publishes Boutique at $349 a month with Cova Pay or $389 without, and Powerhouse at $499 or $599, detailed on our Cova pricing page. IndicaOnline publishes $240 to $850 a month by tier and billing cycle, on our IndicaOnline pricing page.
Among the quote-only vendors, every reported Dutchie figure is on our Dutchie pricing page, and POSaBIT, which grew up in Washington, publishes its revenue mix as a listed company, covered on POSaBIT pricing. If you run stores in New York or Illinois, where the state system changed under BioTrack customers, our New York dispensary POS and Illinois dispensary POS pages cover what each state now requires the register to do.
